RELATED ARTICLES NAHB conducted a national poll of young adults aged 18 to 25 to find out how this age group feels about a career in the construction trades. The majority of young adults (74%) say they know the field in which they want to have a career. Of these, only 3% are interested in the construction trades. Most of the young people interested in the trades say that the two most important benefits of this career choice are good pay (80%) and the attainment of useful skills (74%). Less than half cite as benefits that the work is seasonal (15%) or that it does not require a college degree (37%).The 26% of respondents who do not yet know the career path they want to take got a follow-up question about the chance they might consider a number of fields (construction trades being one of them) using a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 meant “no chance no matter the pay” and 5 meant “very good chance if the pay is high” (see Image #2 below). Construction trades got an average rating of 2.1, with 63% of undecided young adults rating it 1 or 2 (no or little chance regardless of pay) and 18% a 4 or 5 (good to very good chance if pay is high). The 63% of undecided young adults who indicated there was no or little chance they would consider a career in the trades no matter the pay were prodded about the reasons for their resoluteness. The two most common reasons are wanting a less physically demanding job (48%) and the belief that construction work is difficult (32%).They were then asked if there was any compensation level that might entice them to reconsider a career in the trades. For slightly more than 20%, that number is either $75,000 or $100,000, but for the plurality (43%), there is no amount of money that could make them give the trades a second thought (see Image #3 below).A complete research paper on this topic can be found here, including an analysis of government data on actual wages for construction occupations relevant to the home building industry. Don’t cheap out on your camera support! Investing in a quality tripod and fluid head is a smart decision for the future expansion, performance and safety of your gear. Build quality in a tripod has a huge impact on the final image, for both filmmakers and still photographers.Inexpensive tripods are often shoddily constructed, made from aluminum or a similar, thin metal. This flimsy construction makes the tripod prone to breaking and doesn’t provide strong stabilization. Conversely, investing in a more expensive, but higher quality tripod, will provide a more stable image, a longer product lifespan and additional peace of mind when you go to shoot. Are you in the market for a new tripod? Make the following considerations…Avoid Center ColumnsTripods with height adjustable center columns introduce a lot of vibration and instability to your camera rig. There’s a reason professional quality tripods don’t have center columns: the engineering will not provide enough stability. If you’re looking for adding height, go with a tripod that has longer legs.Avoid Aluminum, Stick With Carbon FiberAluminum tripods are usually much more prone to vibrations than tripods constructed of carbon fiber. Aluminum has a longer dampening time, meaning vibrations are much more prevalent – traveling easily throughout the tripod.Carbon fiber has a much shorter dampening time, containing and minimizing vibrations with every camera movement or bump of the tripod. Although lightweight tripods tend to cost more, they do not necessarily perform better. That being said, many professional tripods are made from carbon fiber, which is considerably lightweight. A tripod with better dampening times will produce a professional looking result with minimal hassle. This video from Gordon Liang illustrates the dampening time of an assortment of tripods.Load CapacityEvery tripod will have a maximum load capacity, ranging from 7-10 lbs for cheaper models and upwards of 50 lbs for higher-end types. This is where a little planning can go along way. Selecting the right tripod for your needs (and future needs) is key to your tripod investment. Factor in the weight of your camera combined with weight from any other equipment that will be rigged onto your tripod. As previously stated, it is best to account for the future when that time comes to add more equipment (and weight) to the tripod. A teleprompter, monitors, lights, field recorders and microphones all add weight. Never plan to be at or near your tripod’s load capacity. If you have a 20 lb rig, a tripod rated at 30 lbs will obviously perform better (and safer) than one loaded to capacity.Head & Bowl MountNot all tripods come with a fluid head. It’s important to use a quality head with the appropriate counter-balance and weight load. Tripods that use bowl systems are the most widely used by professionals because it’s easy to level and balance a fluid head in a pinch to get that perfect shot. What is your go-to pair of sticks? Exclusion from the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) reportedly drove a 74-year-old lawyer in north-central Assam’s Kharupetia to death on Sunday. This was the third such case since the publication of the complete draft of the NRC on July 30.Family members found Nirod Kumar Das hanging in his room after returning from his routine morning walk. An autopsy confirmed death by hanging, said Chandan Goswami, incharge of the local police station.Raju Saha, the brother-in-law of the deceased, said Mr. Das appeared disturbed since his name was dropped from the NRC. “His name had figured in the first partial list (published on December 31, 2017) but the local NRC processing centre handed him a document two months ago saying his name has been put on hold as he has been declared a foreigner,” he said.Family members in NRCAll other members of his family – wife, three daughters, their husbands and children – and most of his relatives figure in the NRC. A note left behind by Mr. Das said he was ending his life to “escape the humiliation” of being marked a foreigner after the NRC process. “He blamed no one, listed five people he owed up to ₹1,200 and requested us to return the money,” Mr. Saha said. The septuagenarian had studied law after a 34-year teaching stint at the local government school. A decade ago, he began practising at the district court in Mangaldoi town, 16 km west of Kharupetia.“He was one of the most jovial members of our bar association. But he underwent a drastic change in the last two-three months, and would often mumble about his uncertainty as a citizen of Assam,” Mangaldoi-based lawyer Billal Hussain told The Hindu after attending Mr. Das’s cremation on Sunday evening. The Mangaldoi Bar Association has scheduled a condolence meeting on Monday. On September 3, Mr. Das had lamented in local publications about his “statelessness” and how he felt let down by the very system he was trying to uphold.“My legal documents since 1956, my father’s legacy data of 1966 and my own of 1971 (the cut-off year for detecting and deporting illegal migrants), and by government service mean nothing to the authorities. How can a man prove his citizenship if they are determined not to accept my documents provided by the government?” he wrote. The Assam State Committee of CPI(M) on Sunday wrote to the Supreme Court seeking the inclusion of all 15 admissible documents for the claims and objections phase of NRC that started from September 25.IIT-Guwahati helpline for students in collaboration with Saathi: 8486814024. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry smiles during practice for the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors in Toronto, Wednesday, May 29, 2019. Game 1 of the NBA Finals is Thursday in Toronto. (Nathan Denette/The Canadian Press via AP)TORONTO — Dynasty versus dinosaurs. The Golden State Warriors’ road to a fifth straight NBA Finals has detoured to a new destination — and this one requires a passport.ADVERTISEMENT The Toronto Raptors, a team that arrived in the NBA 24 years ago as the dinosaur-logoed basketball franchise in a hockey-loving country, have finally made it to the championship round and will host Game 1 on Thursday night. It’s the first time the finals will be played outside the U.S., a refreshing change after a record four straight seasons of the same matchup.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesSPORTSSingapore latest to raise issue on SEA Games food, logistics“Different for us obviously, having been in Cleveland four straight years, but this is more the rule. That was the exception,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “You’re not supposed to go to the finals four straight years and you’re definitely not, if you’re lucky enough to do that, you’re not supposed to play the same team four straight years.“This is more what the finals normally feel like, where you’re going against a team you frankly don’t know that well and that you haven’t seen that often over the previous few years.” Cayetano: Senate, Drilon to be blamed for SEA Games mess Stephen Curry lived in Toronto when his father Dell played for the Raptors at the end of his career, but otherwise it’s a new feeling even for these Warriors, who are one of the most championship-experienced teams in NBA history. They joined the Boston Celtics from 1957-66 as the only teams to reach five straight NBA Finals, and are trying to become the first team to win three consecutive titles since the Los Angeles Lakers of 2000-02.Besides facing a different opponent for the first time during their run, the Warriors won’t have the luxury of starting the series at home for the first time. They also won’t have Kevin Durant for at least one more game, though none of that rattles a team that has played in 22 finals games in the last four years.“We have been here before,” Curry said. “We understand the hoopla and the pandemonium around the finals and how different things are when it comes to just the schedule and the vibe. So we have seen a lot and we’ll be ready for it.”The Raptors are new to this stage, but their players aren’t. Kawhi Leonard was MVP of the 2014 NBA Finals, when he and Danny Green won a title with San Antonio. Serge Ibaka made it to the finals with Oklahoma City in 2012, and even players such as Kyle Lowry and Marc Gasol have played in Olympic finals.ADVERTISEMENT “Every possession from the jump ball,” he said, “competing, communicating, solving issues as we face them. Do not overreact to whatever.”ROOKIE RUNSKerr won a championship four years ago in his first season as an NBA head coach and now Nick Nurse can do the same. He was promoted last year after the Raptors fired Dwane Casey, and earlier in his career had been a head coach in both the NBA Development League and the British Basketball League.THREE-PEAT FOR NO. 3?Another title would be the Warriors’ seventh and move them into third place in NBA history behind only the Celtics (17) and Lakers (16).100 PERCENTCurry, already the career leading in NBA Finals 3-pointers, needs two more to reach the century mark.Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next LATEST STORIES ‘Rebel attack’ no cause for concern-PNP, AFP PDEA chief backs Robredo in revealing ‘discoveries’ on drug war Kevin Durant out with Achilles injury; to undergo MRI on Tuesday PLAY LIST 03:12Kevin Durant out with Achilles injury; to undergo MRI on Tuesday01:43Who are Filipinos rooting for in the NBA Finals?02:25Raptors or Warriors? It’s still two hoops. So you just go out there and play hard and live with the results.”The Raptors had already moved away from their purple uniforms with the red dinosaur, and their reputation as a loser is extinct, too. They have won 50 games in four straight seasons and have the best record in the East over the last seven, but couldn’t get over the hump until this year, thanks largely to the acquisition of Leonard last summer. He hit the winning shot in Game 7 of the second round and then led Toronto’s charge back from a 2-0 deficit against Milwaukee in the conference finals to win four straight against the team with the NBA’s best record. They made history just by bringing the finals to Canada and the doorstep of their rowdy fans in Jurassic Park . But Lowry has more in mind.“For me it’s all about winning, and when you get to the point where you make it to the NBA Finals, you won but you still got more to do,” he said. “So getting here doesn’t do anything but getting here. We still want to try to win this.”Some other things to know abou the NBA Finals:WOUNDED WARRIORSDeMarcus Cousins (torn left quadriceps) may be ready to return but it could be a little longer for Durant (strained right calf).
